Ὡς δὲ πλείους ἡμέρας διέτριβεν ἐκεῖ\, ὁ Φῆστος τῷ βασιλεῖ ἀνέθετο τὰ κατὰ τὸν Παῦλον\, λέγων\, Ἀνήρ τίς ἐστιν καταλελειμμένος ὑπὸ Φήλικος δέσμιος\, περὶ οὗ\, γενομένου μου εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα\, ἐνεφάνισαν οἱ ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι τῶν Ἰουδαίων\, αἰτούμενοι κατʼ αὐτοῦ δίκην. Πρὸς οὓς ἀπεκρίθην\, ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν ἔθος Ῥωμαίοις χαρίζεσθαί τινα ἄνθρωπον εἰςN ἀπώλειαν\, πρὶν ἢ ὁ κατηγορούμενος κατὰ πρόσωπον ἔχοι τοὺς κατηγόρους\, τόπον τε ἀπολογίας λάβοι περὶ τοῦ ἐγκλήματος. Συνελθόντων οὖν αὐτῶν ἐνθάδε\, ἀναβολὴν μηδεμίαν ποιησάμενος\, τῇ ἑξῆς καθίσας ἐπὶ τοῦ βήματος\, ἐκέλευσα ἀχθῆναι τὸν ἄνδρα· περὶ οὗ σταθέντες οἱ κατήγοροι οὐδεμίαν αἰτίαν ἐπέφερον ὧν ὑπενόουν ἐγώ\, ζητήματα δέ τινα περὶ τῆς ἰδίας δεισιδαιμονίας εἶχον πρὸς αὐτόν\, καὶ περί τινος Ἰησοῦ τεθνηκότος\, ὃν ἔφασκεν ὁ Παῦλος ζῇν.\nἈνάγνωσις Εὐαγγελίου: Κατὰ Ἰωάννην 16:23-33\nΕἶπεν ὁ Κὐριος τοῖς ἑαυτοῦ μαθηταῖς· Ἀμὴν ἀμὴν λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ὅσα ἂν αἰτήσητε τὸν πατέρα ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου\, δώσει ὑμῖν. ἕως ἄρτι οὐκ ᾐτήσατε οὐδὲν ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου· αἰτεῖτε καὶ λήψεσθε\, ἵνα ἡ χαρὰ ὑμῶν ᾖ πεπληρωμένη. Ταῦτα ἐν παροιμίαις λελάληκα ὑμῖν· ἀλλ᾽ ἔρχεται ὥρα ὅτε οὐκέτι ἐν παροιμίαις λαλήσω ὑμῖν\, ἀλλὰ παρρησίᾳ περὶ τοῦ πατρὸς ἀναγγελῶ ὑμῖν. ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί μου αἰτήσεσθε· καὶ οὐ λέγω ὑμῖν ὅτι ἐγὼ ἐρωτήσω τὸν πατέρα περὶ ὑμῶν· αὐτὸς γὰρ ὁ πατὴρ φιλεῖ ὑμᾶς\, ὅτι ὑμεῖς ἐμὲ πεφιλήκατε\, καὶ πεπιστεύκατε ὅτι ἐγὼ παρὰ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἐξῆλθον. ἐξῆλθον παρὰ τοῦ πατρὸς καὶ ἐλήλυθα εἰς τὸν κόσμον· πάλιν ἀφίημι τὸν κόσμον καὶ πορεύομαι πρὸς τὸν πατέρα. Λέγουσιν αὐτῷ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ· ἴδε νῦν παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖς\, καὶ παροιμίαν οὐδεμίαν λέγεις. νῦν οἴδαμεν ὅτι οἶδας πάντα καὶ οὐ χρείαν ἔχεις ἵνα τίς σε ἐρωτᾷ. ἐν τούτῳ πιστεύομεν ὅτι ἀπὸ Θεοῦ ἐξῆλθες. ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς· ἄρτι πιστεύετε· ἰδοὺ ἔρχεται ὥρα\, καὶ νῦν ἐλήλυθεν\, ἵνα σκορπισθῆτε ἕκαστος εἰς τὰ ἴδια καὶ ἐμὲ μόνον ἀφῆτε· καὶ οὐκ εἰμὶ μόνος\, ὅτι ὁ πατὴρ μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἐστι. ταῦτα λελάληκα ὑμῖν ἵνα ἐν ἐμοὶ εἰρήνην ἔχητε. ἐν τῷ κόσμῳ θλῖψιν ἕξετε· ἀλλὰ θαρσεῖτε\, ἐγὼ νενίκηκα τὸν κόσμον.

And as they stayed there many days\, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king\, saying\, “There is a man left prisoner by Felix; and when I was at Jerusalem\, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews gave information about him\, asking for sentence against him. I answered them that it was not the custom of the Romans to give up any one before the accused met the accusers face to face\, and had opportunity to make his defense concerning the charge laid against him. When therefore they came together here\, I made no delay\, but on the next day took my seat on the tribunal and ordered the man to be brought in. When the accusers stood up\, they brought no charge in his case of such evils as I supposed; but they had certain points of dispute with him about their own superstition and about one Jesus\, who was dead\, but whom Paul asserted to be alive.”\nGospel Reading: John 16:23-33\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, if you ask anything of the Father\, he will give it to you in my name.
