For I tell you that Christ became a servant to the circumcised to show God’s truthfulness\, in order to confirm the promises given to the patriarchs\, and in order that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the whale\, so will the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. The men of Nineveh will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah\, and behold\, something greater than Jonah is here. The queen of the South will arise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon\, and behold\, something greater than Solomon is here.\n“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a man\, he passes through waterless places seeking rest\, but he finds none. Then he says\, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes he finds it empty\, swept\, and put in order. Τολμηρότερον δὲ ἔγραψα ὑμῖν\, ἀδελφοί\, ἀπὸ μέρους\, ὡς ἐπαναμιμνήσκων ὑμᾶς\, διὰ τὴν χάριν τὴν δοθεῖσάν μοι ὑπὸ τοῦ θεοῦ\, εἰς τὸ εἶναί με λειτουργὸν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ εἰς τὰ ἔθνη\, ἱερουργοῦντα τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ θεοῦ\, ἵνα γένηται ἡ προσφορὰ τῶν ἐθνῶν εὐπρόσδεκτος\, ἡγιασμένη ἐν πνεύματι ἁγίῳ.\nἈνάγνωσις Εὐαγγελίου: Κατὰ Ματθαῖον 12:38-45\nΤῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ\, ἀπεκρίθησάν τινες τῶν γραμματέων καὶ Φαρισαίων λέγοντες· διδάσκαλε\, θέλομεν ἀπὸ σοῦ σημεῖον ἰδεῖν. ὁ δὲ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· γενεὰ πονηρὰ καὶ μοιχαλὶς σημεῖον ἐπιζητεῖ\, καὶ σημεῖον οὐ δοθήσεται αὐτῇ εἰμὴ τὸ σημεῖον ᾿Ιωνᾶ τοῦ προφήτου. ὥσπερ γὰρ ἐγένετο ᾿Ιωνᾶς ὁ προφήτης ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ τοῦ κήτους τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας\, οὕτως ἔσται καὶ ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ τῆς γῆς τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας. ἄνδρες Νινευῖται ἀναστήσονται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινοῦσιν αὐτήν\, ὅτι μετενόησαν εἰς τὸ κήρυγμα ᾿Ιωνᾶ\, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον ᾿Ιωνᾶ ὧδε. βασίλισσα νότου ἐγερθήσεται ἐν τῇ κρίσει μετὰ τῆς γενεᾶς ταύτης καὶ κατακρινεῖ αὐτήν\, ὅτι ἦλθεν ἐκ τῶν περάτων τῆς γῆς ἀκοῦσαι τὴν σοφίαν Σολομῶνος\, καὶ ἰδοὺ πλεῖον Σολομῶνος ὧδε. ῞Οταν δὲ τὸ ἀκάθαρτον πνεῦμα ἐξέλθῃ ἀπὸ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου\, διέρχεται δι᾿ ἀνύδρων τόπων ζητοῦν ἀνάπαυσιν\, καὶ οὐχ εὑρίσκει. τότε λέγει· εἰς τὸν οἶκόν μου ἐπιστρέψω ὅθεν ἐξῆλθον· καὶ ἐλθὸν εὑρίσκει σχολάζοντα καὶ σεσαρωμένον καὶ κεκοσμημένον. τότε πορεύεται καὶ παραλαμβάνει μεθ᾿ ἑαυτοῦ ἑπτὰ ἕτερα πνεύματα πονηρότερα ἑαυτοῦ\, καὶ εἰσελθόντα κατοικεῖ ἐκεῖ\, καὶ γίνεται τὰ ἔσχατα τοῦ ἀνθρώπου ἐκείνου χείρονα τῶν πρώτων. οὕτως ἔσται καὶ τῇ γενεᾷ τῇ πονηρᾷ ταύτῃ.
