And the twelve summoned the body of the disciples and said\, “it is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore\, brethren\, pick out from among you seven men of good repute\, full of the Spirit and of wisdom\, whom we may appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole multitude\, and they chose Stephen\, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit\, and Philip\, and Prochoros\, and Nicanor\, and Timon\, and Parmenas\, and Nicolaos\, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles\, and they prayed and laid their hands upon them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem\, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 16:1-6\nAt that time\, the Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and to test him they asked him to show them a sign from heaven. He answered them\, “When it is evening\, you say\, ‘It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.’ And in the morning\, ‘It will be stormy today\, for the sky is red and threatening.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky\, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times. An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign\, but no sign shall be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.\nWhen the disciples reached the other side\, they had forgotten to bring any bread.
