For now we see in a mirror dimly\, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall understand fully\, even as I have been fully understood. So faith\, hope\, love abide\, these three; but the greatest of these is love. Make love your aim\, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts\, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him\, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything\, even the depths of God. For what person knows a man’s thoughts except the spirit of the man which is in him? So also no one comprehends the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world\, but the Spirit which is from God\, that we might understand the gifts bestowed on us by God. And we impart this in words not taught by human wisdom but taught by the Spirit\, comparing spiritual things with spiritual truths to those who possess the Spirit. The unspiritual man does not receive the gifts of the Spirit of God\, for they are folly to him\, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man judges all things\, but is himself to be judged by no one. “For who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. Πάλιν ὁμοία ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν σαγήνῃ βληθείσῃ εἰς τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ ἐκ παντὸς γένους συναγαγούσῃ· ἥν\, ὅτε ἐπληρώθη\, ἀναβιβάσαντες αὐτὴν ἐπὶ τὸν αἰγιαλὸν καὶ καθίσαντες συνέλεξαν τὰ καλὰ εἰς ἀγγεῖα\, τὰ δὲ σαπρὰ ἔξω ἔβαλον. οὕτως ἔσται ἐν τῇ συντελείᾳ τοῦ αἰῶνος. ἐξελεύσονται οἱ ἄγγελοι καὶ ἀφοριοῦσι τοὺς πονηροὺς ἐκ μέσου τῶν δικαίων\, καὶ βαλοῦσιν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν κάμινον τοῦ πυρός· ἐκεῖ ἔσται ὁ κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὁ βρυγμὸς τῶν ὀδόντων. Λέγει αὐτοῖς ὁ ᾿Ιησοῦς· συνήκατε ταῦτα πάντα; λέγουσιν αὐτῷ\, ναί\, Κύριε. ὁ δὲ εἶπεν αὐτοῖς· διὰ τοῦτο πᾶς γραμματεὺς μαθητευθεὶς εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν ὅμοιός ἐστιν ἀνθρώπῳ οἰκοδεσπότῃ\, ὅστις ἐκβάλλει ἐκ τοῦ θησαυροῦ αὐτοῦ καινὰ καὶ παλαιά. Ἐξομολογεῖσθε ἀλλήλοις τὰ παραπτώματα\, καὶ εὔχεσθε ὑπὲρ ἀλλήλων\, ὅπως ἰαθῆτε. Πολὺ ἰσχύει δέησις δικαίου ἐνεργουμένη. But rather I wrote to you not to associate with any one who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of immorality or greed\, or is an idolater\, reviler\, drunkard\, or robber – not even to eat with such a one. For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? God judges those outside. “Drive out the wicked person from among you.” When one of you has a grievance against a brother\, does he dare go to law before the unrighteous instead of the saints? Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you\, are you incompetent to try trivial cases? Do you not know that we are to judge angels? To have lawsuits at all with one another is defeat for you. Why not rather suffer wrong? Why not rather be defrauded? But you yourselves wrong and defraud\, and that even your own brethren. This is my defense to those who would examine me. Do we not have the right to our food and drink? Do we not have the right to be accompanied by a wife\, as the other apostles and the brothers of the Lord and Cephas? Or is it only Barnabas and I who have no right to refrain from working for a living? Who serves as a soldier at his own expense? Who plants a vineyard without eating any of its fruit? Who tends a flock without getting some of the milk? Do I say this on human authority? Does not the law say the same? For it is written in the law of Moses\, “You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out the grain.” Is it for oxen that God is concerned? Does he not speak entirely for our sake? It was written for our sake\, because the plowman should plow in hope and the thresher thresh in hope of a share in the crop. If we have sown spiritual good among you\, is it too much if we reap your material benefits? If others share this rightful claim upon you\, do not we still more? Nevertheless\, we have not made use of this right\, but we endure anything rather than put an obstacle in the way of the gospel of Christ.\nGospel Reading: Luke 8:1-3\nAt that time Jesus went on through cities and villages\, preaching and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with him\, and also some women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary\, called Magdalene\, from whom seven demons had gone out\, and Joanna\, the wife of Chuza\, Herod’s steward\, and Susanna\, and many others\, who provided for him out of their means.

Ἡγίασται γὰρ ὁ ἀνὴρ ὁ ἄπιστος ἐν τῇ γυναικί\, καὶ ἡγίασται ἡ γυνὴ ἡ ἄπιστος ἐν τῷ ἀνδρί· ἐπεὶ ἄρα τὰ τέκνα ὑμῶν ἀκάθαρτά ἐστιν\, νῦν δὲ ἅγιά ἐστιν. Εἰ δὲ ὁ ἄπιστος χωρίζεται\, χωριζέσθω. Οὐ δεδούλωται ὁ ἀδελφὸς ἢ ἡ ἀδελφὴ ἐν τοῖς τοιούτοις· ἐν δὲ εἰρήνῃ κέκληκεν ἡμᾶς ὁ θεός. Τί γὰρ οἶδας\, γύναι\, εἰ τὸν ἄνδρα σώσεις; Ἢ τί οἶδας\, ἄνερ\, εἰ τὴν γυναῖκα σώσεις; Εἰ μὴ ἑκάστῳ ὡς ἐμέρισεν ὁ θεός\, ἕκαστον ὡς κέκληκεν ὁ κύριος\, οὕτως περιπατείτω. Καὶ οὕτως ἐν ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις πάσαις διατάσσομαι. Περιτετμημένος τις ἐκλήθη; Μὴ ἐπισπάσθω. Ἐν ἀκροβυστίᾳ τις ἐκλήθη; Μὴ περιτεμνέσθω. Ἡ περιτομὴ οὐδέν ἐστιν\, καὶ ἡ ἀκροβυστία οὐδέν ἐστιν\, ἀλλὰ τήρησις ἐντολῶν θεοῦ. Ἕκαστος ἐν τῇ κλήσει ᾗ ἐκλήθη\, ἐν ταύτῃ μενέτω. For the unbelieving husband is consecrated through his wife\, and the unbelieving wife is consecrated through her husband. Otherwise\, your children would be unclean\, but as it is they are holy. I think that in view of the present distress it is well for a person to remain as he is. Are you bound to a wife? Do not seek to be free. Are you free from a wife? Do not seek marriage. But if you marry\, you do not sin\, and if a virgin marries she does not sin. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles\, and I would spare you that. I mean\, brethren\, the appointed time has grown very short; from now on\, let those who have wives live as though they had none\, and those who mourn as though they were not mourning\, and those who rejoice as though they were not rejoicing\, and those who buy as though they had no goods\, and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it. For the form of this world is passing away. I want you to be free from anxieties.
