SUMMARY:Holy Ascension
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/29/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Holy Ascension; Theodosia the Virgin-Martyr of Tyre; Theodosia\, Virgin-Martyr of Constantinople; Seven New Martyrs of Kastoria; Andrew the New Martyr of Argentes; John of Smyrna the New Martyr\nMatins Gospel Reading: Mark 16:9-20\nWhen Jesus rose early on the first day of the week\, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene\, from whom He had cast out seven demons. She went and told those who had been with Him\, as they mourned and wept. But when they heard that He was alive and had been seen by her\, they would not believe it.\nAfter this he appeared in another form to two of them\, as they were walking into the country. And they went back and told the rest\, but they did not believe them. After this He appeared to the eleven themselves as they sat at table and He upbraided them for their unbelief and hardness of heart\, because they had not believed those who saw Him after He had risen. And He said to them\, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents\, and if they drink any deadly thing\, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick\, and they will recover.”\nSo then the Lord Jesus\, after He had spoken to them\, was taken up into heaven\, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went forth and preached everywhere\, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the message by the signs that attended it. Amen.\nEpistle Reading: Acts 1:1-12\nIn the first book\, O Theophilos\, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach\, until the day when he was taken up\, after he had given commandment through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. To them he presented himself alive after his passion by many proofs\, appearing to them during forty days\, and speaking of the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he charged them not to depart from Jerusalem\, but to wait for the promise of the Father\, which\, he said\, “you heard from me\, for John baptized with water\, but before many days you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” So when they had come together\, they asked him\, “Lord\, will you at this time restore the kingdom of Israel?” He said to them\, “it is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said this\, as they were looking on\, he was lifted up\, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went\, behold\, two men stood by them in white robes\, and said\,”Men of Galilee\, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus\, who was taken up from you into heaven\, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” Then they returned from the mount called Olivet\, which is near Jerusalem\, a sabbath day’s journey away.\nGospel Reading: Luke 24:36-53\nAt that time\, having risen from the dead\, Jesus went up and stood among His disciples and said to them\, “Peace be with you.” But they were startled and frightened\, and supposed that they saw a spirit. And He said to them\, “Why are you troubled\, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? See My hands and My feet\, that it is I Myself; handle Me\, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.” And when He had said this\, He showed them His hands and His feet. And while they still disbelieved for joy\, and wondered\, He said to them\, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave Him a piece of broiled fish \, and He took it and ate before them. Then He said to them\, “These are My words which I spoke to you\, while I was still with you\, that everything written about Me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled.” Then He opened their minds to understand the scriptures\, and said to them\, “Thus it is written\, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead\, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in His name in all nations\, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold\, I send the promise of My Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Then He led them out as far as Bethany\, and lifting up His hands\, He blessed them. While He blessed them\, He parted from them\, and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him\, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy\, and were continually in the Temple blessing God.

SUMMARY:🐟 Apodosis of Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/28/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Apodosis of Pascha; Hieromartyr Eutychius\, Bishop of Melitene; Nikitas\, Bishop of Chalcedon; Helikonis the Martyr; Heladios the Hieromartyr of the East; Zacharias the New Martyr\nFast Day (Fish Allowed)\nEpistle Reading: Acts 18:22-28\nIN THOSE DAYS\, when Paul had landed at Caesarea\, he went up and greeted the church\, and then went down to Antioch. After spending some time there he departed and went from place to place through the region of Galatia and Phrygia\, strengthening all the disciples. Now a Jew named Apollos\, a native of Alexandria\, came to Ephesos. He was an eloquent man\, well versed in the scriptures. He had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit\, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus\, though he knew only the baptism of John. He began to speak boldly in the synagogue; but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him\, they took him and expounded to him the way of God more accurately. And when he wished to cross to Achaia\, the brethren encouraged him\, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he arrived\, he greatly helped those who through grace had believed\, for he powerfully confuted the Jews in public\, showing by the scriptures that the Christ was Jesus.\nGospel Reading: John 12:36-47\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “While you have the light\, believe in the light\, that you may become sons of light. When Jesus had said this\, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many signs before them\, yet they did not believe in him; it was that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “Lord\, who has believed our report\, and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?” Therefore they could not believe. For Isaiah again said\, “He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart\, lest they should see with their eyes and perceive with their heart\, and turn for me to heal them.” Isaiah said this because he saw his glory and spoke of him. Nevertheless\, many even of the authorities believed in him\, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it\, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.\nAnd Jesus cried out and said\, “He who believes in me\, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And he who sees me sees him who sent me. I have come as light into the world\, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If any one hears my sayings and does not keep them\, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.”

SUMMARY:The Holy Hieromartyr Helladius
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/27/2025\nSaints and Feasts: The Holy Hieromartyr Helladius; John the Russian of Evia; Theodora the Virgin-martyr & Didymos the Martyr; Venerable Bede\nEpistle Reading: Acts 17:19-28\nIN THOSE DAYS\, the Athenians took hold of Paul and brought him to the Areopagos\, saying\, “May we know what this new teaching is which you present? For you bring some strange things to our ears; we wish to know therefore what these things mean.” Now all the Athenians and the foreigners who lived there spent their time in nothing except telling or hearing something new. So Paul\, standing in the middle of the Areopagos\, said: “Men of Athens\, I perceive that in every way you are very religious. For as I passed along\, and observed the objects of your worship\, I found also an altar with this inscription\, ‘To an unknown god.’ What therefore you worship as unknown\, this I proclaim to you. The God who made the world and everything in it\, being Lord of heaven and earth\, does not live in shrines made by man\, nor is he served by human hands\, as though he needed anything\, since he himself gives to all men life and breath and everything. And he made from one every nation of men to live on all the face of the earth\, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their habitation\, that they should seek God\, in the hope that they might feel after him and find him. Yet he is not far from each one of us\, for ‘In him we live and move and have our being.’\nGospel Reading: John 12:19-36\nAt that time\, the Pharisees took counsel against Jesus and said to one another\, “You see that you can do nothing; look\, the world has gone after him.”\nNow among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. So these came to Philip\, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee\, and said to him\, “Sir\, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew went with Philip and they told Jesus. And Jesus answered them\, “The hour has come for the Son of man to be glorified. Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies\, it remains alone; but if it dies\, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life loses it\, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If any one serves me\, he must follow me; and where I am\, there shall my servant be also; if any one serves me\, the Father will honor him.\n“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father\, save me from this hour?’ No\, for this purpose I have come to this hour. Father\, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven\, “I have glorified it\, and I will glorify it again.” The crowd standing by heard it and said that it had thundered. Others said\, “An angel has spoken to him.” Jesus answered\, “This voice has come for your sake\, not for mine. Now is the judgment of this world\, now shall the ruler of this world be cast out; and I\, when I am lifted up from the earth\, will draw all men to myself.” He said this to show by what death he was to die. The crowd answered him\, “We have heard from the law that the Christ remains for ever. How can you say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?” Jesus said to them\, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light\, lest the darkness overtake you; he who walks in the darkness does not know where he goes. While you have the light\, believe in the light\, that you may become sons of light.”

SUMMARY:6th Monday after Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/26/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 6th Monday after Pascha; Carpos and Alphaeus\, Apostles of the 70; Alexandros the New Martyr of Thessaloniki; George the New of Sofia; Augustine\, Archbishop of Canterbury\nEpistle Reading: Acts 17:1-9\nIN THOSE DAYS\, when the apostles had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia\, they came to Thessalonica\, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. And Paul went in\, as was his custom\, and for three weeks he argued with them from the scriptures\, explaining and proving that it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead\, and saying\, “This Jesus\, whom I proclaim to you\, is the Christ.” And some of them were persuaded\, and joined Paul and Silas; as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women. But the Jews were jealous\, and taking some wicked fellows of the rabble\, they gathered a crowd\, set the city in an uproar\, and attacked the house of Jason\, seeking to bring them out to the people. And when they could not find them\, they dragged Jason and some of the brethren before the city authorities\, crying\, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also\, and Jason has received them; and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar\, saying that there is another king\, Jesus.” And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard this. And when they had taken security from Jason and the rest\, they let them go.\nGospel Reading: John 11:47-54\nAt that time\, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered the council\, and said\, “What are we to do? For this man performs many signs. If we let him go on thus\, every one will believe in him\, and the Romans will come and destroy both our place and our nation.” But one of them\, Caiaphas\, who was high priest that year\, said to them\, “You know nothing at all; you do not understand that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people\, and that the whole nation should not perish.” He did not say this of his own accord\, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation\, and not for the nation only\, but to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad. So from that day on they took counsel how to put him to death.\nJesus therefore no longer went about openly among the Jews\, but went from there to the country near the wilderness\, to a town called Ephraim; and there he stayed with the disciples.

SUMMARY:Sunday of the Blind Man
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/25/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Sunday of the Blind Man; Third Finding of the Precious Head of St. John the Baptist; Therapon the Hieromartyr\, Bishop of Cyprus; Finding of the Icon of St. Demetrios the Great-Martyr and Myrrh-Streamer on Syros; Aldhelm\, Bishop of Sherborne\nMatins Gospel Reading: John 20:11-18\nAt that time\, Mary stood weeping outside the tomb\, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb\, and she saw two angels in white\, sitting where the body of Jesus has lain\, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping?” She said to them\, “Because they have taken away my Lord\, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Saying this\, she turned round and saw Jesus standing\, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?” Supposing Him to be the gardener\, she said to Him\, “Sir\, if you have carried Him away\, tell me where you have laid Him\, and I will take Him away.” Jesus said to her\, “Mary.” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew\, “Rabboni\,” which means Teacher. Jesus said to her\, “Do not touch Me\, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them\, I am ascending to My Father and your Father\, to My God and your God.” Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples\, “I have seen the Lord\,” and she told them that He had said these things to her.\nEpistle Reading: II Corinthians 4:6-15\nBrethren\, it is the God who said\, “Let light shine out of darkness\,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.\nBut we have this treasure in earthen vessels\, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way\, but not crushed; perplexed\, but not driven to despair; persecuted\, but not forsaken; struck down\, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus\, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake\, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us\, but life in you.\nSince we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote\, “I believed\, and so I spoke\,” we too believe\, and so we speak\, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake\, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving\, to the glory of God.\nGospel Reading: John 9:1-38\nAt that time\, as Jesus passed by\, he saw a man blind from his birth. And his disciples asked him\, “Rabbi\, who sinned\, this man or his parents\, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered\, “It was not that this man sinned\, or his parents\, but that the works of God might be made manifest in him. We must work the works of him who sent me\, while it is day; night comes\, when no one can work. As long as I am in the world\, I am the light of the world.” As he said this\, he spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle and anointed the man’s eyes with the clay\, saying to him\, “Go\, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing. The neighbors and those who had seen him before as a beggar\, said\, “Is not this the man who used to sit and beg?” Some said\, “It is he”; others said\, “No\, but he is like him.” He said\, “I am the man.” They said to him\, “Then how were your eyes opened?” He answered\, “The man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me\, ‘Go to Siloam and wash’; so I went and washed and received my sight.” They said to him\, “Where is he?” He said\, “I do not know.”\nThey brought to the Pharisees the man who had formerly been blind. Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes. The Pharisees again asked him how he had received his sight. And he said to them\, “He put clay on my eyes and I washed\, and I see.” Some of the Pharisees said\, “This man is not from God\, for he does not keep the sabbath.” But others said\, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” There was a division among them. So they again said to the blind man\, “What do you say about him\, since he has opened your eyes?” He said\, “He is a prophet.”\nThe Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had received his sight\, until they called the parents of the man who had received his sight\, and asked them\, “Is this your son\, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?” His parents answered\, “We know that this is our son\, and that he was born blind; but how he now sees we do not know\, nor do we know who opened his eyes. Ask him; he is of age\, he will speak for himself.” His parents said this because they feared the Jews\, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone should confess him to be Christ he was to be put out of the synagogue. Therefore his parents said\, “He is of age\, ask him.”\nSo for the second time they called the man who had been blind\, and said to him\, “Give God the praise; we know that this man is a sinner.” He answered\, “Whether he is a sinner\, I do not know; one thing I know\, that though I was blind\, now I see.” They said to him\, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?” He answered them\, “I have told you already and you would not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you too want to become his disciples?” And they reviled him\, saying\, “You are his disciple\, but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God has spoken to Moses\, but as for this man\, we do not know where he comes from.” The man answered\, “Why\, this is a marvel! You do not know where he comes from\, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners\, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will\, God listens to him. Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God\, he could do nothing.” They answered him\, “You were born in utter sin\, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.\nJesus heard that they had cast him out\, and having found him he said\, “Do you believe in the Son of man?” He answered\, “And who is he\, sir\, that I may believe in him?” Jesus said to him\, “You have seen him\, and it is he who speaks to you.” He said\, “Lord\, I believe”; and he worshiped him.

SUMMARY:Symeon the Stylite of the Mountain
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/24/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Symeon the Stylite of the Mountain; Saint Vincent of Lerins; Meletios the Commander & his Companion Martyrs; Gregory\, Archbishop of Novgorod\nEpistle Reading: Acts 15:35-41\nIN THOSE DAYS\, Paul and Barnabas remained in Antioch\, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord\, with many others also. And after some days Paul said to Barnabas\, “Come\, let us return and visit the brethren in every city where we proclaimed the word of the Lord\, and see how they are.” And Barnabas wanted to take with them John called Mark. But Paul thought best not to take with them one who had withdrawn from them in Pamphylia\, and had not gone with them to the work. And there arose a sharp contention\, so that they separated from each other; Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus\, but Paul chose Silas and departed\, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he went through Syria and Cilicia\, strengthening the churches.\nGospel Reading: John 10:27-38\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “My sheep hear my voice\, and I know them\, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life\, and they shall never perish\, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand. My Father\, who has given them to me\, is greater than all\, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”\nThe Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them\, “I have shown you many good works from the Father; for which of these do you stone me?” The Jews answered him\, “It is not for a good work that we stone you but for blasphemy; because you\, being a man\, make yourself God.” Jesus answered them\, “Is it not written in your law\, ‘I said\, you are gods?’ If he called them gods to whom the word of God came (and scripture cannot be broken)\, do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world\, ‘You are blaspheming\,’ because I said\, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father\, then do not believe me; but if I do them\, even though you do not believe me\, believe my works\, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.”

SUMMARY:🍇 Michael the Confessor\, Bishop of Synnada
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/23/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Michael the Confessor\, Bishop of Synnada; Mary the Myrrhbearer & wife of Cleopas\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nEpistle Reading: Acts 15:5-12\nIN THOSE DAYS\, some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up\, and said\, “it is necessary to circumcise them\, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.” The apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider this matter. And after there had been much debate\, Peter rose and said to them\, “Brethren\, you know that in the early days God made choice among you\, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. And God who knows the heart bore witness to them\, giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us; and he made no distinction between us and them\, but cleansed their hearts by faith. Now therefore why do you make trial of God by putting a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus\, just as they will.” And all the assembly kept silence; and they listened to Barnabas and Paul as they related what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles.\nGospel Reading: John 10:17-28\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “For this reason the Father loves me\, because I lay down my life\, that I may take it again. No one takes it from me\, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have power to lay it down\, and I have power to take it again; this charge I have received from my Father.”\nThere was again a division among the Jews because of these words. Many of them said\, “He has a demon\, and he is mad; why listen to him?” Others said\, “These are not the sayings of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”\nIt was the feast of the Dedication at Jerusalem; it was winter\, and Jesus was walking in the temple\, in the portico of Solomon. So the Jews gathered round him and said to him\, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Christ\, tell us plainly.” Jesus answered them\, “I told you\, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name\, they bear witness to me; but you do not believe\, because you do not belong to my sheep. My sheep hear my voice\, and I know them\, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life.”

SUMMARY:5th Thursday after Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/22/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 5th Thursday after Pascha; Basiliscus the Martyr\, Bishop of Comana; Holy New Martyrs Demetrius and Paul of Tripoli; John-Vladimir\, Ruler of Serbia\nEpistle Reading: Acts 14:20-28;15.1-4\nIN THOSE DAYS\, Paul went on with Barnabas to Derbe. When they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples\, they returned to Lystra and to lconion and to Antioch\, strengthening the souls of the disciples\, exhorting them to continue in the faith\, and saying that through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God. And when they had appointed elders for them in every church\, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they believed. Then they passed through Pisidia\, and came to Pamphylia. And when they had spoken the word in Perga\, they went down to Attalia; and from there they sailed to Antioch\, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work which they had fulfilled. And when they arrived\, they gathered the church together and declared all that God had done with them\, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. And they remained no little time with the disciples. But some men came down from Judea and were teaching the brethren\, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses\, you cannot be saved.” And when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them\, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question. So\, being sent on their way by the church\, they passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria\, reporting the conversion of the Gentiles\, and they gave great joy to all the brethren. And when they came to Jerusalem\, they were welcomed by the church and the apostles and the elders\, and they declared all that God had done with them.\nGospel Reading: John 9:39-10:9\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “For judgment I came into this world\, that those who do not see may see\, and that those who see may become blind.” Some of the Pharisees near him heard this\, and they said to him\, “Are we also blind?” Jesus said to them\, “If you were blind\, you would have no guilt; but now that you say\, ‘We see\,’ your guilt remains.\n“Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way\, that man is a thief and a robber; but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice\, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own\, he goes before them\, and the sheep follow him\, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow\, but they will flee from him\, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure Jesus used with them\, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.\nSo Jesus again said to them\, “Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me\, he will be saved\, and will go in and out and find pasture.”

SUMMARY:🍇 Constantine and Helen\, Equal-to-the Apostles
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/21/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Constantine and Helen\, Equal-to-the Apostles; Pachomios the Righteous New Martyr\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nMatins Gospel Reading: John 10:9-16\nThe Lord said\, “I am the door; if any one enters by me\, he will be saved\, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life\, and have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. He who is a hireling and not a shepherd\, whose own the sheep are not\, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf snatches them and scatters them. He flees because he is a hireling and cares nothing for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me\, as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep\, that are not of this fold; I must bring them also\, and they will heed my voice. So there shall be one flock\, one shepherd.”\nEpistle Reading: Acts 26:1\,12-20\nIN THOSE DAYS\, King Agrippa said to Paul\, “You have permission to speak for yourself.” Then Paul stretched out his hand and made his defense: “I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. At midday\, O king\, I saw on the way a light from heaven\, brighter than the sun\, shining round me and those who journeyed with me. And when we had all fallen to the ground\, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language\, ‘Saul\, Saul\, why do you persecute me? It hurts you to kick against the goads.’ And I said\, ‘Who are you\, Lord?’ And the Lord said\, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand upon your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose\, to appoint you to serve and bear witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you\, delivering you from the people and from the Gentiles-to whom I send you to open their eyes\, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God\, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.’ “Wherefore\, O King Agrippa\, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision\, but declared first to those at Damascus\, then at Jerusalem and throughout all the country of Judea\, and also to the Gentiles\, that they should repent and turn to God and perform deeds worthy of their repentance.”\nGospel Reading: John 10:1-9\nThe Lord said to the Jews who had come to him\, “Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way\, that man is a thief and a robber; but he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens; the sheep hear his voice\, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own\, he goes before them\, and the sheep follow him\, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow\, but they will flee from him\, for they do not know the voice of strangers.” This figure Jesus used with them\, but they did not understand what he was saying to them. So Jesus again said to them\, “Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, I am the door of the sheep. All who came before me are thieves and robbers; but the sheep did not heed them. I am the door; if any one enters by me\, he will be saved\, and will go in and out and find pasture.”
