And the multitudes with one accord gave heed to what was said by Philip\, when they heard him and saw the signs which he did. For unclean spirits came out of many who were possessed\, crying with a loud voice; and many who were paralyzed or lame were healed. So there was much joy in the city.\nBut there was a man named Simon who had previously practiced magic in the city and amazed the nation of Samaria\, saying that he himself was somebody great. They all gave heed to him\, from the least to the greatest\, saying\, “This man is that power of God which is called Great.” And they gave heed to him\, because for a long time he had amazed them with his magic. But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ\, they were baptized\, both men and women. Even Simon himself believed\, and after being baptized he continued with Philip. And seeing signs and great miracles performed\, he was amazed.\nNow when the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God\, they sent to them Peter and John\, who came down and prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit; for it had not yet fallen on any of them\, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)\, and of the Cyrenians\, and of the Alexandrians\, and of those from Cilicia and Asia\, arose and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee\, he went and begged him to come down and heal his son\, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him\, “Unless you see signs and wonders you will not believe.” The official said to him\, “Sir\, come down before my child dies.” Jesus said to him\, “Go; your son will live.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and went his way. As he was going down\, his servants met him and told him that his son was living. So he asked them the hour when he began to mend\, and they said to him\, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” The father knew that was the hour when Jesus had said to him\, “Your son will live”; and he himself believed\, and all his household. This was now the second sign that Jesus did when he had come from Judea to Galilee.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.  Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings; for it is well that the heart be strengthened by grace\, not by foods\, which have not benefited their adherents.  We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat.  For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp.  So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood.  Therefore let us go forth to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured.  For here we have no lasting city\, but we seek the city which is to come.  Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God\, that is\, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.
