SUMMARY:Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/04/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Sunday of the Myrrh-Bearing Women; Pelagia the Nun-martyr of Tarsus; Hilary the Wonderworker; Euthemios\, Bishop of Madytos; Athanasios\, Bishop of Corinth\nMatins Gospel Reading: Luke 24:1-12\nOn the first day of the week at early dawn\, the women went to the tomb\, taking spices\, which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb\, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this\, behold\, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground\, the men said to them\, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here\, but has risen. Remember how He told you\, while He was still in Galilee\, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men\, and be crucified\, and on the third day rise.” And they remembered His words and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told this to the Apostles; but these words seemed to them an idle tale\, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in\, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home wondering at what had happened.\nEpistle Reading: Acts 6:1-7\nIn those days\, when the disciples were increasing in number\, the Hellenists murmured against the Hebrews because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution. And the twelve summoned the body of the disciples and said\, “it is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to serve tables. Therefore\, brethren\, pick out from among you seven men of good repute\, full of the Spirit and of wisdom\, whom we may appoint to this duty. But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And what they said pleased the whole multitude\, and they chose Stephen\, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit\, and Philip\, and Prochoros\, and Nicanor\, and Timon\, and Parmenas\, and Nicolaos\, a proselyte of Antioch. These they set before the apostles\, and they prayed and laid their hands upon them. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem\, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.\nGospel Reading: Mark 15:43-47; 16:1-8\nAt that time\, Joseph of Arimathea\, a respected member of the council\, who was also himself looking for the kingdom of God\, took courage and went to Pilate\, and asked for the body of Jesus. And Pilate wondered if he were already dead; and summoning the centurion\, he asked him whether he was already dead. And when he learned from the centurion that he was dead\, he granted the body to Joseph. And he bought a linen shroud\, and taking him down\, wrapped him in the linen shroud\, and laid him in a tomb which had been hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a stone against the door of the tomb. Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where he was laid.\nAnd when the sabbath was past\, Mary Magdalene\, and Mary the mother of James\, and Salome\, bought spices\, so that they might go and anoint him. And very early on the first day of the week they went to the tomb when the sun had risen. And they were saying to one another\, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the door of the tomb?” And looking up\, they saw that the stone was rolled back; for it was very large. And entering the tomb\, they saw a young man sitting on the right side\, dressed in a white robe; and they were amazed. And he said to them\, “Do not be amazed; you seek Jesus of Nazareth\, who was crucified. He has risen\, he is not here; see the place where they laid him. But go\, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him\, as he told you.” And they went out and fled from the tomb; for trembling and astonishment had come upon them; and they said nothing to anyone\, for they were afraid.

SUMMARY:2nd Saturday after Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/03/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 2nd Saturday after Pascha; The Holy Martyrs Timothy and Maura; Peter the Wonderworker; Theophan\, Bishop of Peritheorion; Xenia of Kalamata the Great Martyr; Father Theodosius\, Abbot of Kiev Caves Lavra; Ahmet the Calligrapher & Martyr; Oikoumenios the Wonderworker\, Bishop of Trikka\nEpistle Reading: Acts 5:21-32\nIn those days\, the apostles entered the temple and taught. Now the high priest came and those who were with him and called together the council and all the senate of Israel\, and sent to the prison to have them brought. But when the officers came\, they did not find them in the prison\, and they returned and reported\, ‘We found the prison securely locked and the sentries standing at the doors\, but when we opened it we found no one inside.” Now when the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these words\, they were much perplexed about them\, wondering what this would come to. And some one came and told them\, “The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.” Then the captain with the officers went and brought them\, but without violence\, for they were afraid of being stoned by the people.\nAnd when they had brought them\, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them\, saying\, “We strictly charged you not to teach in this name\, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.” But Peter and the apostles answered\, “We must obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised Jesus whom you killed by hanging on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior\, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things\, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”\nGospel Reading: John 6:14-27\nAt that time\, when the people saw the sign which Jesus had done\, they said\, “This is indeed the prophet who is to come into the world!”\nPerceiving then that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king\, Jesus withdrew again to the mountain by himself.\nWhen evening came\, his disciples went down to the sea\, entered a boat\, and started across the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark\, and Jesus had not yet come to them. The sea rose because a strong wind was blowing. When they had rowed about three or four miles\, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat. They were frightened\, but he said to them\, “It is I; do not be afraid.” Then they were glad to take him into the boat\, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.\nOn the next day the people who remained on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there\, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with his disciples\, but that his disciples had gone away alone. However\, boats from Tiberias came near the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks. So when the people saw that Jesus was not there\, nor his disciples\, they themselves entered the boats and went to Capernaum\, seeking Jesus.\nWhen they found him on the other side of the sea\, they said to him\, “Rabbi\, when did you come here?” Jesus answered them\, “Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, you seek me\, not because you saw signs\, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not labor for the food which perishes\, but for the food which endures to eternal life which the Son of man will give to you; for on him has God the Father set his seal.”

SUMMARY:🍇 Removal of the Relics of St. Athanasius the Great
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/02/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Removal of the Relics of St. Athanasius the Great; Hesperos & Zoe the Righteous; Boris\, King & Enlightener of Bulgaria (Michael in Baptism); Jordan the Wonderworker\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nEpistle Reading: Hebrews 13:7-16\nBrethren\, remember your leaders\, those who spoke to you the word of God; consider the outcome of their lives\, and imitate their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever. Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings; for it is well that the heart be strengthened by grace\, not by foods\, which have not benefited their adherents. We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the sanctuary by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. Therefore let us go forth to him outside the camp and bear the abuse he endured. For here we have no lasting city\, but we seek the city which is to come. Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God\, that is\, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have\, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 5:14-19\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel\, but on a stand\, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men\, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly\, I say to you\, till heaven and earth pass away\, not an iota\, not a dot\, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so\, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”

SUMMARY:2nd Thursday after Pascha
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 05/01/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 2nd Thursday after Pascha; Jeremias the Prophet; New Martyr Maria of Fourna\, Mirabella in Crete; Tamara (Tamar)\, Queen of Georgia; Nikiforos the Monk of Chios; Synaxis of the Three New Righteous Martyrs of the Holy Mountain\, Euthymius\, Ignatius\, and Acacius; Asaph\, Bishop of Wales\nEpistle Reading: Acts 4:23-31\nIn those days\, when the apostles were released they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. And when they heard it\, they lifted their voices together to God and said\, “Sovereign Lord\, who didst make the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them\, who by the mouth of our father David\, thy servant\, didst say by the Holy Spirit\, ‘Why did the Gentiles rage\, and the peoples imagine vain things? The kings of the earth set themselves in array\, and the rulers were gathered together\, against the Lord and against his Anointed’- for truly in this city there were gathered together against thy holy servant Jesus\, whom thou didst anoint\, both Herod and Pontius Pilate\, with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel\, to do whatever thy hand and thy plan had predestined to take place. And now\, Lord\, look upon their threats\, and grant to thy servants to speak thy word with all boldness\, while thou stretchest out thy hand to heal\, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of thy holy servant Jesus.” And when they had prayed\, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.\nGospel Reading: John 5:24-30\nThe Lord said to the Jews who came to him\, “Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me\, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment\, but has passed from death to life. Truly\, truly\, I say to you\, the hour is coming\, and now is\, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God\, and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself\, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself\, and has given him authority to execute judgment\, because he is the Son of man. Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come forth\, those who have done good\, to the resurrection of life\, and those who have done evil\, to the resurrection of judgment. I can do nothing on my own authority; as I hear\, I judge; and my judgment is just\, because I seek not my own will but the will of the Father who sent me.”
