SUMMARY:🍇 Translation of the Relics of Stephen the Protomartyr
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/02/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Translation of the Relics of Stephen the Protomartyr; Holy Glorious New Martyr Theodore of Dardanelles; Phocas the Martyr; Plegmund\, Archbishop of Canterbury\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nEpistle Reading: Acts 6:8-15;7:1-5\,47-60\nIn those days\, Stephen\, full of grace and power\, did great wonders and signs among the people. Then some of those who belonged to the synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)\, and of the Cyrenians\, and of the Alexandrians\, and of those from Cilicia and Asia\, arose and disputed with Stephen. But they could not withstand the wisdom and the Spirit with which he spoke. Then they secretly instigated men\, who said\, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” And they stirred up the people and the elders and the scribes\, and they came upon him and seized him and brought him before the council\, and set up false witnesses who said\, “This man never ceases to speak words against this holy place and the law; for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place\, and will change the customs which Moses delivered to us.” And gazing at him\, all who sat in the council saw that his face was like the face of an angel.\nAnd the high priest said\, “Is this so?” And Stephen said: “Brethren and fathers\, hear me. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham\, when he was in Mesopotamia\, before he lived in Haran\, and said to him\, ‘Depart from your land and from your kindred and go into the land which I will show you.’ Then he departed from the land of the Chaldeans\, and lived in Haran. And after his father died\, God removed him from there into this land in which you are now living; yet he gave him no inheritance in it\, not even a foot’s length\, but promised to give it to him in possession and to his posterity after him\, though he had no child.\n“But it was Solomon who built a house for him. Yet the Most High does not dwell in houses made with hands; as the prophet says\, ‘Heaven is my throne\, and earth my footstool. What house will you build for me\, says the Lord\, or what is the place of my rest? Did not my hand make all these things?’\n“You stiff-necked people\, uncircumcised in heart and ears\, you always resist the Holy Spirit. As your fathers did\, so do you. Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? And they killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One\, whom you have now betrayed and murdered\, you who received the law as delivered by angels and did not keep it.”\nNow when they heard these things they were enraged\, and they ground their teeth against him. But he\, full of the Holy Spirit\, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God\, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God; and he said\, “Behold\, I see the heavens opened\, and the Son of man standing at the right hand of God.” But they cried out with a loud voice and stopped their ears and rushed together upon him. Then they cast him out of the city and stoned him; and the witnesses laid down their garments at the feet of a young man named Saul. And as they were stoning Stephen\, he prayed\, “Lord Jesus\, receive my spirit.” And he knelt down and cried with a loud voice\, “Lord\, do not hold this sin against them.” And when he had said this\, he fell asleep.\nGospel Reading: Mark 12:1-12\nThe Lord said this parable\, “A man planted a vineyard\, and set a hedge around it\, and dug a pit for the wine press\, and built a tower\, and let it out to tenants\, and went into another country. When the time came\, he sent a servant to the tenants\, to get from them some of the fruit of the vineyard. And they took him and beat him\, and sent him away empty handed. Again he sent to them another servant\, and they wounded him in the head\, and treated him shamefully. And he sent another\, and him they killed; and so with many others\, some they beat and some they killed. He had still one other\, a beloved son; finally he sent him to them\, saying\, ‘They will respect my son.’ But those tenants said to one another\, ‘This is the heir; come\, let us kill him\, and the inheritance will be ours.’ And they took him and killed him\, and cast him out of the vineyard. What will the owner of the vineyard do? He will come and destroy the tenants\, and give the vineyard to others. Have you not read this scripture: ‘The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord’s doing\, and it is marvelous in our eyes’?” And they tried to arrest him\, but feared the multitude\, for they perceived that he had told the parable against them; so they left him and went away.

SUMMARY:🍇 8th Sunday of Matthew
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/03/2025\nSaints and Feasts: 8th Sunday of Matthew; Isaacius\, Dalmatus\, & Faustus\, Ascetics of the Dalmation Monastery; Salome the Holy Myrrhbearer; Theoctistus the Wonderworker\nFast Day (Wine and Oil Allowed)\nMatins Gospel Reading: John 20:11-18\nAt that time\, Mary stood weeping outside the tomb\, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb\, and she saw two angels in white\, sitting where the body of Jesus has lain\, one at the head and one at the feet. They said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping?” She said to them\, “Because they have taken away my Lord\, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Saying this\, she turned round and saw Jesus standing\, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her\, “Woman\, why are you weeping? Whom do you seek?” Supposing Him to be the gardener\, she said to Him\, “Sir\, if you have carried Him away\, tell me where you have laid Him\, and I will take Him away.” Jesus said to her\, “Mary.” She turned and said to Him in Hebrew\, “Rabboni\,” which means Teacher. Jesus said to her\, “Do not touch Me\, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them\, I am ascending to My Father and your Father\, to My God and your God.” Mary Magdalene went and said to the disciples\, “I have seen the Lord\,” and she told them that He had said these things to her.\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 1:10-17\nBrethren\, I appeal to you by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ\, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you\, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you\, my brethren. What I mean is that each one of you says\, “I belong to Paul\,” or “I belong to Apollos\,” or “I belong to Cephas\,” or “I belong to Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispos and Gaius; lest any one should say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that\, I do not know whether I baptized any one else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel\, and not with eloquent wisdom\, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 14:14-22\nAt that time\, Jesus saw a great throng; and he had compassion on them\, and healed their sick. When it was evening\, the disciples came to him and said\, “This is a lonely place\, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” Jesus said\, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” They said to him\, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” And he said\, “Bring them here to me.” Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven\, and blessed\, and broke and gave the loaves to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men\, besides women and children. Then he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side\, while he dismissed the crowds.

SUMMARY:☦️ Seven Holy Youths of Ephesus
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/04/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Seven Holy Youths of Ephesus\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 11:31-34;12:1-6\nBrethren\, if we judged ourselves truly\, we should not be judged. But when we are judged by the Lord\, we are chastened so that we may not be condemned along with the world. So then\, my brethren\, when you come together to eat\, wait for one another – if any one is hungry\, let him eat at home – lest you come together to be condemned. About the other things I will give directions when I come. Now concerning the spiritual gifts\, brethren\, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were heathen\, you were led astray to dumb idols\, however you may have been moved. Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus be cursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except by the Holy Spirit. Now there are varieties of gifts\, but the same spirit; and there are varieties of service\, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of working\, but it is the same God who inspires them all in every one.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 18:1-11\nAt that time\, the disciples came to Jesus\, saying\, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child\, he put him in the midst of them and said\, “Truly\, I say to you\, unless you turn and become like children\, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child\, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.\n“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me; but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin\, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened round his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.\n“Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come\, but woe to the man by whom the temptation comes! And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin\, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life maimed or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin\, pluck it out and throw it away; it is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the Gehenna of fire.\n“See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven. For the Son of man came to save the lost.”

SUMMARY:☦️ Forefeast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/05/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Forefeast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; Eusignius the Martyr of Antioch; Our Righteous Father Eugene of Aitola; Euthymios\, Patriarch of Constantinople; Christos the New Martyr of Prevezis; Oswald the Martyr\, King of Northumbria\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: I Peter 1:1-25;2:1-10\nPeter\, an apostle of Jesus Christ\, to the exiles of the Dispersion in Pontos\, Galatia\, Cappadocia\, Asia\, and Bithynia\, chosen and destined by God the Father and sanctified by the Spirit for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood:\nMay grace and peace be multiplied to you. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead\, and to an inheritance which is imperishable\, undefiled\, and unfading\, kept in heaven for you\, who by God’s power are guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice\, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials\, so that the genuineness of your faith\, more precious than gold which though perishable is tested by fire\, may redound to praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Without having known him you love him; though you do not now see him you believe in him and rejoice with unutterable and exalted joy. As the outcome of your faith you obtain the salvation of your souls.\nThe prophets who prophesied of the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired about this salvation; they inquired what person or time was indicated by the Spirit of Christ within them when predicting the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glory. It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you\, in the things which have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you through the Holy Spirit sent from heaven\, things into which angels long to look.\nTherefore gird up your minds\, be sober\, set your hope fully upon the grace that is coming to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children\, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance\, but as he who called you is holy\, be holy yourselves in all your conduct; since it is written\, “You shall be holy\, for I am holy.” And if you invoke as Father him who judges each one impartially according to his deeds\, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile. You know that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your fathers\, not with perishable things such as silver or gold\, but with the precious blood of Christ\, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. He was destined before the foundation of the world but was made manifest at the end of the times for your sake. Through him you have confidence in God\, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory\, so that your faith and hope are in God.\nHaving purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere love of the brethren\, love one another earnestly from the heart. You have been born anew\, not of perishable seed but of imperishable\, through the living and abiding word of God; for “All flesh is like grass and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers\, and the flower falls\, but the word of the Lord abides for ever.” That word is the good news which was preached to you.\nSo put away all malice and all guile and insincerity and envy and all slander. Like newborn babes\, long for the pure spiritual milk\, that by it you may grow up to salvation; for you have tasted the kindness of the Lord.\nCome to him\, to that living stone\, rejected by men but in God’s sight chosen and precious; and like living stones be yourselves built into a spiritual house\, to be a holy priesthood\, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. For it stands in scripture: “Behold\, I am laying in Zion a stone\, a cornerstone chosen and precious\, and he who believes in him will not be put to shame.” To you therefore who believe\, he is precious\, but for those who do not believe\, “The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner\,” and “A stone that will make men stumble\, a rock that will make them fall”; for they stumble because they disobey the word\, as they were destined to do. But you are a chosen race\, a royal priesthood\, a holy nation\, God’s own people\, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were no people but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy but now you have received mercy.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 18:18-22;19:1-2; 13-15\nThe Lord said to his disciples\, “Truly\, I say to you\, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven\, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again I say to you\, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask\, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name\, there am I in the midst of them.”\nThen Peter came up and said to him\, “Lord\, how often shall my brother sin against me\, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him\, “I do not say to you seven times\, but seventy times seven.”\nNow when Jesus had finished these sayings\, he went away from Galilee and entered the region of Judea beyond the Jordan; and large crowds followed him\, and he healed them there.\nThen children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people; but Jesus said\, “Let the children come to me\, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away.

SUMMARY:🐟 Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/06/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ\nFast Day (Fish Allowed)\nMatins Gospel Reading: Luke 9:28-36\nAt that time\, Jesus took with him Peter and John and James\, and went up on the mountain to pray. And as he was praying\, the appearance of his countenance was altered\, and his raiment became dazzling white. And behold\, two men talked with him\, Moses and Elijah\, who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure\, which he was to accomplish at Jerusalem. Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep\, and when they wakened they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And as the men were parting from him\, Peter said to Jesus\, “Master\, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths\, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah” – not knowing what he said. As he said this\, a cloud came and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. And a voice came out of the cloud\, saying\, “This is my Son\, my Beloved; listen to him!” And when the voice had spoken\, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silence and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.\nEpistle Reading: II Peter 1:10-19\nBRETHREN\, be more zealous to confirm your call and election\, for if you do this you will never fall; so there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.\nTherefore I intend always to remind you of these things\, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. I think it right\, as long as I am in this body\, to arouse you by way of reminder\, since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon\, as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. And I will see to it that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.\nFor we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ\, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when he received honor and glory from God the Father and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory\, “This is my beloved Son\, with whom I am well pleased\,” we heard this voice borne from heaven\, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word made more sure. You will do well to pay attention to this as to a lamp shining in a dark place\, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 17:1-9\nAt that time\, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John his brother\, and led them up a high mountain apart. And he was transfigured before them\, and his face shone like the sun\, and his garments became white as light. And behold\, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah\, talking with him. And Peter said to Jesus\, “Lord\, it is well that we are here; if you wish\, I will make three booths here\, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” He was still speaking\, when lo\, a bright cloud overshadowed them\, and a voice from the cloud said\, “This is my beloved Son\, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this\, they fell on their faces\, and were filled with awe. But Jesus came and touched them\, saying\, “Rise\, and have no fear.” And when they lifted up their eyes\, they saw no one but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain\, Jesus commanded them\, “Tell no one the vision\, until the Son of man is raised from the dead.”

SUMMARY:☦️ Afterfeast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/07/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Afterfeast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; The Holy Righteous Martyr Dometius; Our Holy Father Nicanorus the Wonderworker; Theodosius the New; Joseph Gerontogiannis of Lithines Sitia; Sozon of Nicomedea; The Holy Ten Thousand Ascetics of Thebes; Narcissus the Hieromartyr of Jerusalem\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 14:6-19\nBrethren\, if I come to you speaking in tongues\, how shall I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? If even lifeless instruments\, such as the flute or the harp\, do not give distinct notes\, how will any one know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound\, who will get ready for battle? So with yourselves; if you in a tongue utter speech that is not intelligible\, how will any one know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world\, and none is without meaning; but if I do not know the meaning of the language\, I shall be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves; since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit\, strive to excell in building up the church. Therefore\, he who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret. For if I pray in a tongue\, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with spirit and I will sing with the mind also. Otherwise\, if you bless with the spirit\, how can any one in the position of an outsider say the “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? For you may give thanks well enough\, but the other man is not edified. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than you all; nevertheless\, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind\, in order to instruct others\, than ten thousand words in a tongue.\nGospel Reading: Mark 9:2-9\nAt that time\, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John\, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them\, and his garments became glistening\, intensely white\, as no fuller on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus. And Peter said to Jesus\, “Master\, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths\, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” For he did not know what to say\, for they were exceedingly afraid. And a cloud overshadowed them\, and a voice came out of the cloud\, “This is my beloved son; listen to him.” And suddenly\, looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only. And as they were coming down the mountain he charged them to tell no one what they had seen\, until the Son of man should have risen from the dead.

SUMMARY:☦️ Emilian the Confessor & Bishop of Cyzikos
DESCRIPTION:Saints\, Feasts\, and Readings for 08/08/2025\nSaints and Feasts: Emilian the Confessor & Bishop of Cyzikos; Our Holy Father Myronus the Wonderworker\, Bishop of Crete; Holy New Martyrs Triantaphillus of Zagoras and Anastasius of Thessolonica; Gregory of Sinai and Mount Athos; Kallinikos\, Metropolitan of Edessa and Pella; Afterfeast of the Transfiguration of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; Anastatios the Martyr from Bulgaria\nStrict Fast\nEpistle Reading: I Corinthians 14:26-40\nBRETHREN\, when you come together\, each one has a hymn\, a lesson\, a revelation\, a tongue\, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for edification. If any speak in a tongue\, let there be only two or at most three\, and each in turn; and let one interpret. But if there is no one to interpret\, let each one of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God. Let two or three prophets speak\, and let the others weigh what is said. If a revelation is made to another by sitting by\, let the first be silent. For you can all prophesy one by one\, so that all may learn and all be encouraged; and the spirits of prophets are subject to prophets. But God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints\, the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak\, but should be subordinate\, as even the law says. If there is anything they desire to know\, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. What! Did the word of God originate with you\, or are you the only one it has reached? If any one thinks that he is a prophet\, or spiritual\, he should acknowledge that what I am writing to you is a command of the Lord. If any one does not recognize this\, he is not recognized. So\, my brethren\, earnestly desire to prophesy\, and do not forbid speaking in tongues; but all things should be done decently and in order.\nGospel Reading: Matthew 21:12-14; 17-20\nAt that time\, Jesus entered the temple of God and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple\, and he overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. He said to them\, “It is written\, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you make it a den of robbers.” And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple\, and he healed them. And leaving them\, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there.\nIn the morning\, as he was returning to the city\, he was hungry. And seeing a fig tree by the wayside he went to it\, and found nothing on it but leaves only. And he said to it\, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once. When the disciples saw it they marveled\, saying\, “How did the fig tree wither at once?”
